The Wai Kru is a ceremonial ritual carried out before a match, featuring a series of movements accompanied by a prayer or chant.

The Muay Thai Fighter or striker takes their position at the centre of the ring and engages in the traditional Wai Kru dance, which combines slow, purposeful motions reminiscent of martial arts and elegant dance, regardless of whether they are in Chiang Mai, Phuket, Bangkok, or Pattaya.

As they move in a circular pattern around the ring, they show respect for the fighting arena and seek the blessings and protection of their ancestors' spirits.

Additionally, the fighter performs the Wai gesture by placing their hands together in a prayer-like position while bowing their head, acknowledging the spirits, their mentors, and the deities associated with the martial art.

This ritual serves not only as a symbol but also as a profound meditative practice that aids the fighter in concentrating, calming their thoughts, and mentally preparing for the impending competition.
